Hello swim families! I hope this message finds you healthy and well, and that you've indulged in all the holiday things! With that being said I am ready for spring! Which means our SPAR 2023 swim season will be here before you know it! I would love to hear from everyone about your thoughts on your families returning this season! We are always looking for returning families, and new families too! Please feel free to spread the word to your friends about Swim Season! I will be happy to chat with them and get them the info they need!

With some families graduating out of summer swim last year, we have some new volunteer spots available for openings!

-Any teenagers who are interested in helping be an assistant coach to Coach Kim, please reach out to her for more info.There is a lifeguard ceritifcation you can complete and must be 15 years of age.

We are in need of parents for volunteer spots. Essentially we would like to have someone who will be a part of the SPAR summer swim team for a few more years for these positions, but that is not mandatory.

1. Someone to help with computers during meets. We could do 1 or 2 positions. You will certainly be trained for this and is easy once you pick it up! This requires your attention the whole meet, but you can easily still get up and watch your child/children swim when needed!

2. Clerk of Course- 1 or 2 positions open. These volunteers line kids up on
benches by event, then send them to sit on the chairs behind the blocks in heat orders, making sure they are moving forward and checking what their names are. Clerk of course may also work prior to the start of the meet to combine events to make the meet run more smoothly.

3. Treasurer- Right now we have Patty Yeary, but she will be leaving us next year so we really would like to have someone shadowing Patty this year on what the tasks are for this board position. This one is ideally for a family who is considering being with SPAR for years to come but is not mandatory!

4. SAIL REP- Patty Yeary is also our SAIL rep, it is indeed an important role for our team to be able to swim. There are monthly meetings throughout the year. If whoever is shadowing her would like to take over both her roles that would be wonderful, but not mandatory.

There will of course be other volunteer spots that you can work at the swim meets if these do not fit your criteria. If you’re not ready to commit yet and have a few more questions about the positions listed above, please feel free to ask! Not comfortable yet? That’s ok!

If you’re new to the team or have just been hesitant in years prior, and you would like to try a new position this summer, talk to one of the Board members or the volunteer coordinator and we can help walk you through it. You can always watch us or join in on meetings during the season too!
