Week 2: A Note from Coach
Hello SPAR Families,
I had a blast this week, minus the ants. I was able to reconnect with swimmers I have not seen in two summers. I enjoyed meeting new swimmers. I do believe this is going to be a fun summer, lots of new experiences and relationships are going to be created.
Please be aware of the temperature this week. It is supposed to be unseasonably warm. Bring your water and sunscreen.
Practice this week:
Mon - Thurs:
5:30 - 6:30 --- 10 and Under swimmers
6:30 - 7:30 --- 11 and Up swimmers
The pool is now open to the community. We will be using 4 lanes instead of 6. I will continue with lane assignments and taking attendance. Something to know, our covid guidelines for the pool area have a limit of 67 individuals. I will need to be very aware of how many swimmers and parents we have at practice. Consider the idea of sitting in your car, sitting in a chair outside the fence, or running an errand if you feel comfortable during 10 and under practice.
Looking ahead:
Memorial Day Weekend: we will have a 1 hour practice on Monday morning, May 31st. There will not be an afternoon practice on Monday May 31st. This morning practice is going to be 8-9am, please let me know if you are planning to attend. All age groups will be in the pool at the same time.
Swim Meets: our first meet will be on Thursday, June 3rd at Neely Farms. Use this link to familiarize yourself with the ins and outs of a SAIL Swim Meet.
Repeats:
Swimtopia has a Mobile App. You can use the app for “upcoming events”, history of past swims, calendar of events, and a few more things. Please consider downloading it.
Remind: We use Remind to communicate in mass, for quick, short announcements.. It is super helpful for weather announcements/cancelations. To join the SPAR Remind: text to the number 81010, the message “@ sailfish”
Volunteer Certifications:
Runner, Chief Timer, Timer- you only need to take the online test. Stroke & Turn, Referee, Starter, TCO, Clerk of Course, you must attend a zoom class (LAST one is May 27th) then take the online test found on the Sail Swimtopia site.
REMINDER: if you have a swimmer in a meet, you need to volunteer!! Volunteers run the meets and we need everyone to pitch in.
Pool Gate Cards:
Please use them to enter the pool area for practice. If you are a returning family, please look for your gate card!! They are reactivated every season. If you have lost it, you can purchase one through Goldsmith/CAMS Management Company for $15(?). Goldsmith is located at 451 Haywood Rd and you can contact Cynthia Hamilton at 864-672-1263 to make arrangements to get one. If your card does not work, you can contact Cynthia and give her your card number so she can check it.
EVERY family needs one to enter the gate. Please don't rely on someone opening the gate for you to enter. Also, PLEASE put your name on the card with Sharpie so if it is left at the pool we can return it to you.
See you at the Pool,
Kim Ashworth
