A Note from Coach, 1 week out
Hello SPAR Families,
We are getting closer and closer to the first day of practice.
Practice Times for School Days:
Mon - Thur: 10 and unders 5:30-6:30pm
Mon - Thur: 11 and ups 6:30-7:30pm
Lane etiquette: Some things to discuss with your swimmers.
- Circle swimming - swimmers need to stay on the right side of the lane, this gives other swimmers room to swim their laps without hitting others This video might be helpful to those who are visual learners.
- Passing swimmers - if you find yourself swimming faster than the person in front of you, touch the toes. A gentle tap on the toes communicates that you intend to pass on the left.
- Spacing - swimmers should not leave the wall until the swimmer before them has passed under the green flags.
- Finishing and moving over - when you finish swimming your assigned distance, touch the wall and move to the left. This gives the swimmers behind you room to also practice their finishes.
Swimmers Ear - this is a bacterial infection that occurs in the ear canal. It can be quite painful. The trick to prevent it from occurring is to dry out the ear. I typically purchase little bottles called “Swimmers Ear”. These are alcohol based drops to put in the ear after time spent in large bodies of water. I can find them in the pharmacy section, in the same area as the orange wax ear plugs.
Swimtopia has a Mobile App. You can use the app for “upcoming events”, history of past swims, calendar of events, and a few more things. Please consider downloading it.
Remind: We use Remind to communicate in mass; for quick, short announcements. It is super helpful for weather announcements/cancelations. To join the SPAR Remind: text to the number 81010, the message “@ sailfish”
First Practice is Mon May 17th - I can’t wait!
See you at the Pool,
